I realized the other day that, other than the big announcement, I haven’t really talked about this pregnancy much on the blog. Don’t worry–I have quite a few posts planned to remedy that situation (but not toooo many, if you know what I mean). Some bloggers post adorable weekly updates of their pregnancy complete with equally gorgeous bump photos—I’m not one of those bloggers. To be honest, I just barely started taking bump photos and I’m still really confused about what to do with my hands. #hotmess So in other words, this is not going to be a weekly thing, maybe it’ll be a monthly thing……maybe.
In any case here goes. Oh and if you have any questions that I didn’t answer here, feel free to ask away in the comments!
Due Date: September 9, 2016 (that puts me at 17 weeks if you’re counting)
Gender: Our anatomy scan is scheduled for the end of April so we’ll be finding out for sure then, but I’m really thinking boy.
Name: Guys, naming your child isn’t nearly as easy as it seems. A few weeks ago, we’ve finally nailed down a name for a boy but we’re still fluctuating on a girl’s name. No matter the gender, we’ll most likely be waiting till birth to reveal our little one’s name.
All about the First Trimester
When did you find out? We found out on Monday, January 3rd so basically around 4 weeks along. It felt like FOREVER until my first real doctor’s appointment which wasn’t until 11 weeks.
Doctor’s Appointments: Zach and I decided early on that, as long as we were in Hawaii, we would be going through the military for my healthcare. The one downside so far has been that, as I said before, my first ‘real’ doctor’s appointment wasn’t until 11 weeks. I did have a preliminary appointment at 8 weeks but it was with a nurse practitioner and it was really more like a meeting going over my options for prenatal care and taking some preliminary tests.
Preliminary tests that did not include a pregnancy blood test even though the nurse assured me one would we be taken. It sounds silly but I cried buckets when I looked up my test results and couldn’t find anything confirming my pregnancy. After experiencing two early-term miscarriages, Zach and I both agree that the weeks between my preliminary appointment and my actual appointment were the most stressful.
Since then though I’ve had two appointments–we had an ultrasound at 11 weeks and a regular checkup (heart beat only) at 16 weeks. Thankfully, despite the disappointment of my first appointment, I really love my doctor and I’m pretty happy with my care so far.
Weight Gain: According to the doctor’s office, about 4 pounds since the start of my pregnancy
Best moment of the first trimester? Seeing Baby on the ultrasound and watching him/her kicking his feet in the air. Best moment ever!!!!
All about Me
How I’m Feeling Physically: Tired……oh sooooooo tired. January was especially rough for me because I was trying to be very active and my body just would not cooperate with me. I was definitely sensitive to certain smells at the beginning (hamburger = number one culprit) but other that not much nausea and no vomiting. Overall I feel like I had a pretty easy first trimester compared to other people I know–my biggest pains were needing bathroom breaks every fifteen minutes, taking naps every afternoon, and being hungry ALL THE TIME.
How I’m Feeling Emotionally: Now you might need to ask the hubs for confirmation but overall I’ve been feeling pretty good. I have noticed there’s one day every month (around the time when my period usually starts) that I’m either extremely cranky or extremely weepy. However other than that, I feel….well…kinda normal. Which is weird because there’s a baby growing inside me. But overall I just feel like a bigger, hungrier, more tired version of myself.
What I’m Most Looking Forward to: Definitely our anatomy scan this month. I’m so excited to get another look at our little one and to find out if Baby Fishy is a girl or a boy. Also my pregnancy app tells me I should be able to feel movement sometime within the next week or so and I’m waiting with baited breath for the first time I can feel Baby move (EEEKK!!).
Honestly, I can’t believe that the end of April marks the half-way point of this pregnancy. Time seems to have whizzed by and slowed down at the same time.
